Meeting other gay people in Malta is easy at Malta’s favourite gay clubs and gay bars.
The miniature island and, consequently, miniature gay community in Malta mean there are only a few designated male lover clubs and gay bars in Malta. A market needs to be of a substantial size to make any business feasible, so the gay scene in Malta runs mainly on special gay events.

Gay Malta the finest gay hotels, bars, clubs more
Malta has to be one of the most understated countries in Europe. For such a small place, Malta has a lot to present its LGBTQ+ visitors – proving that size is, in fact, not everything! With just under half a million inhabitants, it’s the fifth smallest region in the world and the smallest in the EU, yet it’s doomed to do everything in just one short stop by . That doesn’t have to stop you from trying though.
Malta is geographically separate in that it is an archipelago of islands located in the center of the Mediterranean, just south of Sicily and above Northern Africa. The archipelago consists of three islands: Malta, Gozo, and Comino, two of which are inhabited and propose enviable sunny weather, gorgeous beaches, an exciting – if somewhat underground – queer nightlife scene, an impressive ten UNESCO sites, and cities that are so ostentatious about their distinctive history that they resemble giant outdoor museums as much as places to live.
The island nation has passed ownership many times over the centuries, having been in the hands of everyone from the Romans to the Arabs to the French to the St. John’s Order of Knight
Our gay travel guide to Malta with top tips about the gay scene, places to stay, homosexual bars, restaurants, activities, Celebration events, and more!
“You wish to go to a gay bar in Malta? Pick anyone you arrive across and you'll be just fine!”
So said our Maltese gay friends when we asked them about the gay scene. But we get their signal. When it comes to gay friendliness, Malta is killing it! This tiny island nation in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea is frequently named one of the most gay friendly countries in the world and we can totally see why!
What used to be one of the most religious places in Europe (for example, up until , divorce was illegal in Malta!) the country did a degree turn to pass some of the most LGBTQ progressive laws in the world, fast becoming THE gay haven in the Mediterranean region.
We visited Malta to find the gay scene and what makes it so appealing to LGBTQ travelers. We left with a strong thirst to come back and see more. The people are open-minded, super friendly (Maltese guys – heLLO!), the queer people is very visible and even though it's such a small nation of just , people, it still has a vibrant gay scene
