PREFACE.
In writing my Cornish Tales I include always endeavoured to pourtray the Cornish character in all its native wit and humour, for which the genuine west-country miners are so proverbial. And I have generally taken for the foundation of my Stories incidents which have really happened in the localities wherein the actions of my minute dramas have been laid.
The scene of my show story is laid in the neighbourhood of the Land's-End, and most of the characters were well-known there in days gone by;—the names only entity fictitious.
The fall of the horse over the cliff is still in the remembrance of some ancient people in the neighbourhood; and the circumstance is related by the Guides who shew the beauties of the Land's-End scenery to strangers. The marks of the horse's hoofs in the grass at the edge of the cliff are preserved to this day.

Organisations come together for Scotch Whisky Action Fund study event
The Scotch Whisky Move Fund (SWAF) has this week hosted an event aimed at sharing experiences and learning from Scottish projects who have received funding to help tackle alcohol-related harm. The annual learning event is the Scotch Whisky Action Fund’s fifth to date, and featured presentations from eight recipient projects from around Scotland, who shared what the funding has helped them to achieve, and the challenges that were faced. The event was chaired by Douglas Meikle, Head of Alcohol Policy at the Scotch Whisky Association, with opening remarks from Karen Betts, Leader Executive at the Scotch Whisky Association.
The Scotch Whisky Action Fund was established in 2013 and has made 50 awards to initiatives across Scotland active to reduce alcohol-related damage. The SWAF is administered by Foundation Scotland, who provide advice and help to organisations seeking funding to address alcohol-related issues in communities across the country.
