We did a display years ago in Ybor City in Tampa and Divine Brown — the girl who messed around with Hugh Grant support in the day (laughs) — was hosting a drag show. We actually had no idea. We were all really juvenile. Kevin (Richardson) was obviously older, so he had been around all his gays at Disney (when he worked there before Backstreet Boys) and he had been around performative queens before Nick (Carter) and me. We were in our trailer and we were watching these guys changing. Backstreet Boys' A.J. McLean Talks Dressing in Drag, Admits to Being a "F-g Hag"
Backstreet Boys singer A.J. McLean is really opening up in a new interview with LGBT site Pride Source.
The 35-year-old boy bander is sounding off on everything from gay marriage, the band's gay fan ground , dressing in drag (remember that 2012 photo shoot?) and why he's dubbed himself the self-proclaimed "f-g hag" of the group!
"Thinking endorse on it, I've been in this business since I was 3 and I grew up in musical theater, so I was raised and surrounded by gay men and gay women," McLean said. "I was hardly around anyone straight."
McLean added that it's amazing he turned out straight. "Everyone always says, 'When you observe at a boy band, one of them has to be gay,'" he said, adding, "No, they don't. Instead of me being gay, I'm the f-g hag."

Speaking to Refinery29, A.J. says, “There is truly no better feeling then being a father and seeing the look on my daughters’ faces and…and how they look up to me…if I clueless everything in my career, if Backstreet said no and we were done tomorrow, I would still be happy and satisfied being a proud father, period. And I am so thankful that I did not have boys.”
He continues, “I will also go on record by saying, and I told my wife this, I hope that both of my daughters are lgbtq+ because that takes all p***s out of my life — I execute not want to deal with boys ever. But if I do hold to, they’re going to have to go through quite a lot of trials to go through me because my daughters are my life.”

In the interview, McLean talks about shaving his legs and dressing up in drag. As for any sort of gay rumors surrounding him or the pop organization, he doesn't care.
