La festa di San Nicola

The arrival of the relics of Saint Nicholas on 9 May is marked each year by a city-wide festival split over 3 days, Bari’s most important event.

On the first day of the patronal festival his painting is taken to sea. San Nicola is also the patron saint of seafarers. A grand parade takes place that night; historically themed with a procession of floats and about people dressed in 11th century costume.
