TV has been instrumental in the LGBTQ+ rights movement and in changing attitudes towards the community. It has also, perhaps most importantly, been a platform to tell stories that have made gay, woman loving woman, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex, and more people experience less alone in the world – to recognize there is a great and varied community to which they belong. One pioneering show at a time, groundbreaking character by groundbreaking character, TV and streaming series have given the world an understanding into the LGBTQ+ encounter, and provided LGBTQ+ people with reflections of their own lives – stories to laugh along with, to cry with, and to identify with. In this list of Homosexual TV shows, we showcase shows that have broken ground, enlightened, and entertained.

Ahh, Peacock — the last in a long line of streaming services to appear and make us all wonder, &#;do we need this?&#; Well, you should know that surprisingly enough, Peacock&#;s slate of authentic content is extremely lesbian-inclusive — Peacock has homosexual characters in nearly all of its original and co-produced TV shows and movies. It used to be that you could hardly find a non-stereotypical male lover character on a TV show, let alone a same-sex couple. Sometimes, storytellers would jump through hoops to imply the characters had feelings for each other without actually showing them get together. Due to the lack of overt representation, I became skilled at reading into subtext. Are those two guys a couple? Hmm, let me analyze and fantasize! Nowadays, BL dramas are loud, proud, and out front and centre in the mainstream market. I'm still startled by how much BL dramas are thriving in countries worldwide, including Thailand, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, and even South Korea. Is this a dream? When did I fall asleep and arouse up to a nature where other people relish the obscure BL series I watch? Despite my confusion, I'm glad the genre has taken off because it means there's a growing list of good shows to watch. I love all the modern BL series coming out every other week.
