RCP's Wegmann: Love Him Or Hate Him, Trump Is At The Zenith Of His Political Power

Real Evident Politics

RealClearPolitics White Residence correspondent Philip Wegmann reacts to President Donald Trump's signing ceremony for the "Big, Beautiful Bill" and the celebration afterward. "Well, clearly the president wants to celebrate, and I think that if you rewind and look at where he was at in his first phrase in 2017, you had Obamacare repeal, dying in Congress, North Korea was launching intercontinental missiles, sorry, fell all over that, and then you had the Mueller special counsel. It's night and evening now versus then, and we're not six months in, but he's been able to get the majority of his national policy agenda to the finish line. So care him or hate him, I think that Donald Trump is at the zenith of his political power, and he's feeling himself," Wegmann told "Special Report" guest host Gillian Turner.

“Thank you, Phil, very much. Great to catch up,” Stigall said.

“I love you. Thank you,” Wegmann responded.

The “I love you” seemingly caught the host off guard, as he questioned whether he heard the reporter correctly.

“Did I just hear Philip say he loved me? Did he think he was talking to his wife for a minute?” Stigall asked.

“I’ve never had a guest actually say that in closing. ‘I love you.’ Sorry, Phil. I’m married. This is very uncomfortable.”

Wegmann later explained on Twitter that he was texting with his mother and slipped up blurting “love you too” aloud as his interview came to a close.

“I am a very serious journalist,” Wegmann wrote.

Stigall, later in his show, burst out laughing before he informed listeners of the explanation.

“He texted an expletive and then said ‘I was re philip wegmann gay
