Port Saint Lucie is a relatively juvenile city – one that is less than 75 years old in evidence, as it was officially incorporated in 1961. The name itself is loaded in history, however, and according to historians, it is believed that the name "St. Lucie" was first given to this area by the Spanish hundreds of years ago after they began construction on a fort in the area on December 13th, the feast morning of the Roman Catholic Saint Lucia. Since its official incorporation, the city grew quickly and has continued to do so. Today it is a diverse, eclectic city full of so much to observe and do, and a thriving LGBTQ community.
