Anchorage Gay City Guide – The Cultural Soul of Alaska
Located on the south coast of Alaska in an area ringed with beautiful mountains, Anchorage is a progressive and groundbreaking city known as the center for Alaskan business, and also known for its laid-back, welcoming, multi-cultural vibe. It is a city with an active and progressive LGBTQ people that has so much to offer all who call it home.
A Bit of Anchorage History
Initially, Anchorage was settled as a tent city in 1914, near the mouth of Ship Creek. For the first several decades of its existence, Anchorage was primarily a company town for the Alaska Railroad. Later due to expanded military presence and training and the use of natural resources in the area, Anchorage begins to grow. The city has continued to grow since that time, and today, it is known not only as a hub of thriving businesses an opportunity but is also widely known as the city that is the “cultural soul” of Alaska. With beautiful scenery, lots of opportunities, plenty to see and do, and a diverse, welcoming, and eclectic community – what’s not to love?

Alaska is somewhere that has been on our bucket list for a very long time. Whilst our knowledge is limited to glaciers, snow-capped mountains, whales and grizzly bears, every photo we see of the incredible landscape and wildlife just makes us more eager to visit!
Whilst a lot of the states in America are well-known for being either very gay-friendly, or the complete opposite, ‘gay Alaska’ wasn’t something we knew anything about.

Is Anchorage male lover friendly?
Nowadays, for the most part, people tolerate and even accept LGBTQ+ people. I should clarify that this is specific to Anchorage which might be the gayest city in Alaska. While a several other cities/towns have a small LGBTQ+ presence, the level of acceptance in remote areas is less than in the city.
Same ടex marriage was legalized. However, there are still laws on the books that allow active discrimination especially with regard to transgender persons.

Day 1: Arrive in Fairbanks
Today we arrive in Fairbanks, Alaska’s “Golden Heart” metropolis. With around 70,000 residents, Fairbanks is Alaska’s second-largest community and hub of Alaska’s vast Interior and Arctic regions. Our hotel offers a complimentary airport shuttle upon request, or you can take a taxi.
The evening is on your own tonight so you have time to acclimate to the “midnight sun.” We are offering an optional scenic flight (Arctic Circle Anaktuvuk Adventure) which takes us to an Inupiaq Eskimo village north of the Arctic Circle in the dramatic Brooks Range and Gates of the Arctic National Park. Therefore, the tour departs tonight at 7 pm and returns around midnight.
Day 2: Welcome to Alaska!
This morning is yours to relax and move at your own pace. Early risers may adore an optional scenic flight between Fairbanks and Coldfoot, north of the Arctic Circle in the Brooks Mountain Range. The flight provides an aerial view of the Yukon River valley and the wildflower-covered hills and tundra of the vast Alaska wilderness. Also, enjoy a guided ground tour to Wiseman, a remote gold mining community in the rugged Brooks Range.
