Gay hiking

Dani Heinrich pulled together a thorough guide for Homosexual hikers who want to connect with others who enjoy hiking treks, camping, nature, and exploring the Great Outdoors.

Nature helps us deal with anxiety and stress, it helps us to relax and to slow down, according to Harvard Medical University research.  Hiking seems to be more popular than ever especially after living through a global pandemic. It forced most of us to deal with self-isolation and restrictions in our daily lives, but also made travelers crave innateness even more. National Parks have been more crowded than ever, and so many people opted for a vacation in world that it caused a campervan and RV shortage across the U.S. Outdoor tour companies felt the effects of the surge, too.

Outdoor Activities for Gender non-conforming Travelers on the Rise

At The Venture Out Plan (TVOP), an organization that arranges backpacking and wilderness trips for queer and transsexual outdoor enthusiasts, most of their trips sold out before the summer even started. “After being stuck at home for over a year, some of us with unaccepting family, I think a lot of queer folks could really use some gay joy,” said Anna Seilier,

Gay Men's Hiking Group

This is our first time hiking in the Adirondacks and I'm really excited to introduce the group to this area. It's some of the best hiking in the Northeast; with pine forests, clear running streams and rocky mountains. I reserved a cabin in the heart of the High Peaks. It's a 3.5 mile step from the trailhead, but it's a popular area with other lodges nearby, so we won't be totally isolated. The hiking will be more challenging than anything we've done before. If you are a regular with this group you should be ok, as long as you aren't somebody who usually hikes at the back of the line up. It's going to be incredible!

THE CABIN
We're staying at Camp Peggy O'Brien, near the Adirondack Mountain Club's John's Brook Lodge. It sleeps 12, has heat and a propane stove. Bunks and mattresses are provided, but you need to carry your own sleeping bag. Water is from a pump outside. The bathroom is an outhouse. I put some pics in the photo section on Meetup. Here's the link, you have to scroll down for Camp Peggy O'Brien. https://adk.org/lodging-and-camping-information/

SCHEDULE
I booked the cabin from Wednesday to Sunday morning, but if you want to arrive T

BLAZE >> Backpacking Gay Men of NYC

Join us for an summer weekend hike in the Catskills! We’ll take on one of the most beautiful hikes in the region—a 7-mile traverse through the Windham-Blackhead Wilderness Range, featuring four Catskill 3500 peaks: Camel’s Hump, Thomas Cole, Shadowy Dome, and Blackhead Mountain.

We’ll climb through lush forest trails, take in sweeping mountain views, and summit Black Dome, the third-highest peak in the Catskills. We’ll link up with Thomas Cole and the other nearby summits for a full day of ridgeline hiking.

👉 This is a challenging 7-mile hike with rocky climbs and significant elevation gain—not a great option for absolute beginners. But if you’re in good shape and ready to push yourself, it’s absolutely doable and incredibly rewarding!
